Writing Center Staff - Northwest
Jennifer Carson Tutor |
As a certified school counselor, teacher, and tutor, I have nearly 30 years of experience as a writing instructor in public, private, and home school settings. In 2023, I left classroom teaching to launch Compass Christian Advising, where I offer college advising and academic services through private practice. Since 2018, I have served as a tutor in the NW Writing Center. I love this job! My favorite thing is helping students break down the writing process into manageable steps. My goal is to relieve some of your stress by providing helpful feedback, being a sounding board for your ideas, and offering encouragement along the way. As a busy mom of 6, you can usually find me cooking for my clan, cleaning up after them, or driving them to dance rehearsals and basketball tournaments. If there's time to spare, I enjoy taking adult ballet classes and working on my swing at Top Golf. When my kids were little, people often commented about our large family by saying, “You’ve sure got your hands full!” I always replied, “Full of good things.” For sure, it’s a hectic but very blessed life! |

Haydee Fuentes Tutor |
Hello, my name is Haydee Fuentes. I am a recent graduate of Austin College with double major in Psychology and a mixed Linguistics & Anthropology self-designed major. I worked as a writing tutor for three years prior to coming to TCC, and enjoyed connecting with other students while assisting them with their assignments. I enjoy doing research (psychology, writing center, sociolinguistic) and have loved the experience of conference work and connecting with other scholars who were also too curious. When I'm not working, I'm usually reading, playing/listening to music, writing stories, or watching shows. If you have any linguistic fun facts, I'd be happy to listen for hours. |

Hi! In 2021, I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and a minor in Japanese. I immediately returned to school to earn my Master of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in August of 2023. During my master’s degree, I worked as the ESL Coordinator for the University of Oklahoma writing center, teaching academic English and hosting a weekly conversation group.
One of my favorite hobbies is learning about languages and how they work. If you ask, I will explain as many linguistic things as I can. Aside from linguistics, I also really enjoy watching TV, listening to music, and playing video games. |
Zahmar Rounds Tutor |
My name is Zahmar Rounds, and I am a writing tutor. I am many more things, but I have been doing this since 2014, and I must say, it is enthralling. Tutoring allows me to be close to what I enjoy. I bounced about America growing up. Born in the great state of California, I moved to Iowa when I was a but a boy, and before my seventh birthday, I ended up in Denton, Texas. From there, it was all the best that Texas public schools had to offer. I moved to Granbury during late middle school, and while that was a culture shock, I managed to fit in well enough. It was in this small (at the time) country town where I found my love for my alphabet soup of hobbies: TCGs, TTRPGs, anime, and video games (FGs, JRPGs, RPGs, sports, and FPSs). Once I was out of Granbury, my life (and location) were all over the place. After six years or so of school surfing, I found the right one in Houston, got focused, and graduated from University of Houston-Downtown with a B.S. in Psychology. Having learned some lessons, I am ready to tackle graduate school. I still play a mean game of Magic and can be found huddled around a television getting beaten on by good folks in fighting games or watching anime via the “binge method”. |
Sarah Schrantz Tutor |
I have been working in the Writing and Reading Center since December 2017. Before coming here, I worked at two other college writing centers for two-and-a-half years. I got my bachelor’s degree at Southwestern University in 2014 in, fittingly, English. My interests include comics, cartoons, literature, cats, and Japanese culture. My hobbies are reading, writing, drawing, playing games, and other indoor activities. At any given time, you’ll find me with my nose in a book or in a computer screen, sometimes both at the same time. Currently I live with my two Siamese cats, Stella and Luna. |

Hello! I grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from the University of North Texas in Anthropology. I worked in libraries, but have been teaching ESL off and on since 2013. Then I had an opportunity to teach in Korea for a year! During my time there, I learned a lot and I enjoy supporting students on their learning journey. When I am not working, I really enjoy going on walks and hikes. I especially enjoy visiting National Parks, so far one of my favorites is Yosemite NP. On most weekends, I enjoy crafting and like learning about new mediums. Some of the crafts I have made in the past have been embroidered pins, clay incense holders, t-shirts using vinyl and making stickers for planners. My literary interests are mostly nonfiction but I also enjoy some fiction books. |

Kevin Wheeler Front Desk Staff |
Starting at the Writing Center in 2023, I graduated from UTD with a major in philosophy and am usually reading through a book or two. I'm usually reading philosophy, playing a game I meant to get around to years ago, or watching some obscure movie. If I'm not doing that I'm going on some random research rabbit-hole or arguing with my friends about the book we're all doing a reading group on. |
Dr. Kelly Mogk Writing Center Manager |
As a teacher and consultant with the National Writing Project (NWP), I have been writing alongside students for over 15 years. Through my work with NWP, I have presented multiple workshops on learning in literacy for students and educators. For the past five years, my work focused on dyslexia and executive functions intervention. Working with students to help them find their voice and confidently share their story is my passion. Four score and seven years ago, I started my college journey at TCC’s South Campus before going on to earn a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Education from the University of North Texas, a Master of Liberal Studies in Creative Writing from Southern Methodist University, and recently received a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Tarleton State University, with a focus on teacher and student well-being. I am fascinated with the learning and the brain, and personal and professional wellness. My love of the written word spans multiple genres and I have published poetry and short fiction. Any day I find time for writing is a good day! When my family manages to pull me away from my books and journals, I enjoy hosting family game nights, traveling to new places where I can get lost in the woods, and knitting. |
