Class Requirements:
Class Participation Policy:
For this course, class discussions are fueled by your informed comments on the works that we read and your previous experiences. Thus, you should be prepared to participate in these discussions by contributing your thoughts. Although the idea of sharing your thoughts with the class may seem intimidating, expressing your ideas on the topics will help you to develop your ideas and problem solve about situations you could potentially face while in college.
The more you contribute to the conversation, the more informed you will feel on this journey in college. I am here to help you see the resources available to you in college. Please make sure you are contributing to the discussion and asking questions as we discuss these topics.
Technology Requirement:
Use of Canvas, the innovative course management tool, is required for this course. You can access Canvas through the myTCC Portal at https://canvas.tccd.edu.
It is imperative that you make a habit of checking Canvas frequently for course news and updates. There, you will find your grades for course assignments and other important class materials and information.
As a Tarrant County College student, you are required to use your MY TCCD e-mail account to communicate with me through e-mail. I will send all correspondence pertaining to this course only to the e-mail address with which the college has provided you. As a reminder, students have free access to campus computers and the Internet in the library.
Attendance Policy Statement:
Regular and consistent class participation is required of all students enrolled in the Student Success course. Class attendance and participation are essential to student success. Regular and punctual class attendance is expected at Tarrant County College. Student absences will be recorded from the first day the class meets. In case of absence, it is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor. Students absent on official school business are entitled to make up coursework missed. The student is expressly responsible for any work missed regardless of the cause of the absence. The student must discuss such work with the instructor and should do so immediately upon returning to school. During the first week of class, make it a point to find a few classmates to exchange information with – these contacts will help you incase an absence does occur. Please take note of the Late Work Policy before you are absent.
Late Work Policy:
I expect all work to be turned in at the beginning of class on the expected due date, unless otherwise announced. Make sure you know the expectation when turning in an assignment (e.g., hard copy or uploaded in Canvas). In the event of an absence, it is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor. Every effort should be made by the student to complete and submit any missed work. Regarding in-class work, any student who is absent or declines to complete in-class work, including tests and quizzes, during the allotted class time for such work will receive no opportunity to make up the assignment.
Please take note: Any in-class group activity cannot be made up due to the nature of the activity.
Any assignment that is accepted late will receive no higher than 70% and must be submitted within less than one week of the absence.
The instructor reserves the right not to accept late work if it becomes a frequent occurrence.
The instructor will not accept any late assignments during the last week of class or finals.

Please always contact me before dropping the course.
