Day in the Life of a Texas High School Student

Before teaching them, it's important to get a sense of what a typical day looks like for a high school student in Texas. A full-time college student has a busy schedule. But it's important to remember that the high school students in your dual credit classes have incredibly busy lives too and are juggling a wide variety of responsibilities with far less freedom. Many students are working part-time jobs, participating in high school athletics, clubs, or organizations, preparing their college applications and resume, doing household chores, taking care of younger siblings, waking up exceedingly early for school, keeping up a social life with friends and peers, doing nightly homework for a variety of high school classes, and much more.

They should be held to the same expectations as any other college student in your classroom. However, it would be a mistake to think of high school students as "having it easy."
