Volunteering Information
Fellow TNSA Members...looking for a way to get involved, give back to your community, and earn those volunteer hours? Members of our organization are encouraged to get involved with community service opportunities as often as possible! Not only does it feel good to give back and be productive, but it is also a good way to keep track of volunteer hours for scholarships, resumes, and you can also earn points towards your service recognition cord for graduation! There will be volunteer opportunities posted throughout the semester, but you are always welcome to seek out your opportunities and report those back to us as well. Here are a few guidelines to help you get started:
- Service Recognition Cords for graduation are awarded by earning a minimum of 10 POINTS - participation in volunteering is NOT mandatory but encouraged
- Points are earned based on the amount of HOURS of service you complete; Generally, when you complete 2 Hours of service you earn 1 Point (the point system can vary for specific events and is designated by the Board and Administration at the time the event is announced)
- Mentors for Alpha Delta Nu will receive 0.5 points for every 2 hours of mentoring.
- Blood donors will receive 1 point per blood donation.
- Volunteer hours should be completed and reported at least one month before your graduation date to provide the Community Service Chairperson(s) time to tally up hours/points and request appropriate cord amounts; this is usually announced ahead of time to give members plenty of time to get their hours turned in!
- Volunteer opportunity registration AND reporting of time served should be submitted to the TCC Trinity River Campus Service website via libguides.tccd.edu/tcc_service
- Most importantly...proof of your volunteering must be submitted to the Community Service Chairperson(s) and verified for your hours/points to be documented. Proof of service can include any/all documentation from the organization such as emails, letters, or pictures of you participating in the event, with your name, date and the time served.
- Remember that no matter what volunteer service you commit to, you are representing TCC and TNSA. Dress appropriately, be respectful, and complete the time that you commit to.
- Please follow the rules and guidelines for your specific event, some places do not permit photos to be taken!
- If you are involved in a volunteer opportunity that does allow photos and you have any you would like to share with us, please do! Our campus administration loves to see our students participating and we may even include photos in any future TNSA presentations!
- Any questions about community service and volunteering should be directed to the active Community Service Chairperson. You can also email questions or proof to the TNSA email at tcc.tnsa@gmail.com.
Go out there, give back, have fun, meet new people, and show the community what excellent, caring future nurses are coming out of TCC!
